Travel Tips
Welcome to Poland!
Here is some general information that Matt & I have composed regarding your trip over
Currency : Złoty (zł)
“Kantor" is your best bet, and a safe option to exchange any money when needed.
If you already have any USD it's a great option to exchange USD to have more ZLOTY
Buying tickets: We won't gatekeep, most flights are the cheapest online on a Tuesday or Wednesday night! Don’t hold me to this…
We usually aim to get a direct flight from YVR to:
Frankfurt, GER or Amsterdam, NL then transfer over to Berlin, GER or Warsaw, PL these are your 2 closest major cities other than flying into Poznan, PL which could be slightly costlier!
Although if you’re going to be more adventurous… rent a car and explore the country!
From either or you can easily book a bus, train or rent a car (more info below)
Rough Trip Itinerary Suggestion
We would suggest you fly into the EU by Wednesday.
Rest up Thursday because jet lag is REAL & adjust to the local time zone.
Thursday/Friday: Travel into the city of Poznan, PL.
Note: Our wedding venue is just under an hour west of Poznan.
Hotel Recommendation in Poznan: PURO

!!! ETIAS !!!
What you need to know about VISAS: All travelers from Canada and the US (with non-EU passports) will require a ETIAS form to be filled out and submitted in order to the European Union. Here’s the link for you to fill out prior to entry!!!
How to get around:
Car Rental
Because of Poland's size, we would highly recommend for you to rent your own car, that way you can see most of it and have unlimited freedom. First off, when you book a car ensure you choose the right vehicle with Automatic Transmission, as a good majority of Europe mostly drives Manual (they can be slightly pricier). We would also recommend for you to buy an International Drivers Permit through BCAA. It’s roughly $31 CAD. But car insurance is cheaper at the rental location.
Our favourite site to rent a car from: CarJET
Note: You fill up first at the gas station then you go pay inside.
!!!!!! Rules of the Road !!!!!!
For your own safety, there's a few things we’d like to mention just so there's no surprises on your end.
Do not drink ANY alcoholic beverages before getting behind the wheel. There is a strict 0.2% alcohol tolerance in Poland and most of Europe. Road stops are at random, at all times of day.
On highways and major roads, the left lane is for passing. On the highway you DO NOT cruise in the left lane… Those who do drive in the left lane usually drive around 130km/hr + and are only passing you
When passing speed up and pay attention to who is approaching behind you
In major cities you will have to be aware of sharing the road with both cyclist & the tramway.
Train: Eurail or PKP
Rozkład jazdy PKP i bilety >> KOLEO
Charter Bus: PKS
Taxi/Uber
Probably your quickest & cheapest option for short trips within the big cities.
If you're going a longer distance, haggling could work but be mindful not all taxi drivers speak English
From what we’ve gathered it should cost roughly $50CAD from Poznan to our venue (Palac Wasowo) via taxi or uber
Booking Hotels
Occasionally when you’re booking hotels in Poland, the price will be per person, not per night stay or room. So just pay attention when you’re booking.
If you do stay in any hotel don’t skip out on the all you can eat breakfasts! They’re great!
Rest Stops - Bathroom Visits
More often than not, you can be charged for a public bathroom visit. Make sure to always keep some spare change on you!!
